SEDATION SLEEP DENTISTRY

ADULT SEDATION DURING DENTAL PROCEDURES

We understand that dental care can be a scary thing for people of all ages. This is why we offer all types of sedation and sleep dentistry. We work with you to deliver the best solution for you or your child. At the end of the day, your comfort is the most important thing.

Types of Dental Sedation offered:
1. Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas)
This reduces anxiety and relaxes you. You will still be aware of what is going on, you just won’t be as concerned and your gag reflex is usually reduced as well. This sedation has very few after effects so you can return to your daily routine once the procedure is over. This is available for children, teens, and adults.

2. Conscious Sedation (two types)

Oral Sedation – like IV, it will put you in a deep, relaxed, comfortable state, most patients have very little memory of the appointment. It is intended for those patients who have extreme dental phobias or low pain thresholds. You simply take a pill and we add the nitrous oxide to supplement the sedation medication and you will be monitored throughout the procedure. You will need someone to bring you home from this appointment and care for you throughout the day. The advantages of oral sedation is that it is very friendly for patients with needle phobias. This is available for children, teens, and adults.

IV Sedation – this is sometimes referred to as intravenous sedation. It will create a deeply relaxed state for those patients who have extreme dental phobias or low pain thresholds and, like oral sedation, you will have little to no memory of the procedure. Again you will need someone to take you home and care for you throughout the day. The advantages of IV sedation is that its effects are much quicker than oral and control over the sedation process is enhanced. Available for teens and adults only.

3. General Anesthesia
We use an anesthesiologist to ensure that you are deeply asleep and your safety is always being monitored by a specialist in his field. The advantages of general anesthesia is since you are completely asleep it is very effective for severe and extreme dental anxiety with or without significant gag reflexes and for children or adults who need extensive work done. In this situation, there will be absolutely no memory of the dental care you received. Again you will definitely need a companion to care for you through the day. Available for children, teens and, adults.
